With the huge proliferation of video content available, whether on television, online or in social media it is more important than ever for the quality to be as good and content as engaging as possible. Camerasmith's trainers have been working in the broadcast industry for over 12 years each and bring a huge variety of skills and experience to the training they deliver.

Mark Smith
Director

Mark has worked as a Lighting Cameraman for over 18 years on a wide variety of programmes. He started at Granada TV working on studio programmes and then at Mersey TV on Brookside and Hollyoaks. Since going freelance in 2004 He has worked for a variety of broadcasters such as the BBC, CBBC, SABC, CNN, NHK, UEFA and SKY SPORTS.

Whilst working as a cameraman for Granada Reports he saw the benefit of shooting on the new, lightweight cameras and shot several documentaries with them. He was then asked to develop courses at ITV STUDIOS for production staff working on programmes such as Come Dine With Me, 60 Minute Makeover and Jeremy Kyle. He is an approved BBC trainer and set-up Camerasmith in 2006.

Tony Bennison
Cameraman and editor

After gaining a science degree in Electronics and Media Communication Tony started his TV career more than 20 years ago in Leeds, working as a Technical Operator for Calendar News. Whilst at Yorkshire TV he worked across the full range of programming as an ENG and studio camera operator including Emmerdale, Countdown, magazine and current affairs programmes. He went freelance in 2008 and now splits his time between delivering camera and edit training for Camerasmith and working as an editing-cameraman for a range of major broadcasters. He has a passion for News and has also worked extensively abroad within sport and documentary, including projects in Russia, Bosnia, Israel, Africa, Greenland and Brazil. Recent clients include FIFA, UEFA, ITN, Channel Four, IMG Media, BBC and Scottish Television.

Together with Mark he has delivered training for the very successful ITV News trainee scheme since 2007.

John Perry
Editor and workflow

Charlie is an award winning filmmaker with a career spanning 18 years. She is experienced across many genres, including factual entertainment, observational documentary, live television, reality, news and current affairs.

As a shooting Producer/Director Charlie brings a creative approach to every project, but her journalistic background ensures this is strengthened by strong editorial judgment. She has a range of credits across the BBC, ITV, CBBC and Channel 4 and extensive experience of foreign shoots in the USA, Africa, India, Egypt, Dubai, and Europe.

As an accomplished studio and location director, Charlie has worked successfully with prime-time, on-screen talent and has led teams to produce compelling content. She has delivered video journalist courses for Camerasmith at STV and ITV over the past 3 years.

John began his career in broadcasting more than 25 years ago. He previously worked on drama productions, light entertainment shows and situation comedies before joining ITV News where he worked as a video editor.

With a core skill of VIDEO EDITING,  John became post-production supervisor and technical supervisor for regional programmes with ITV. He left in 2005 to become a freelance training consultant, going on to deliver the majority of Newscutter edit training for hundreds of journalists in ITV’s move to non-linear workflows and shared storage. John works both nationally and internationally as an independent training consultant as well as for major companies such as Avid. His work has included a collaborative 10-month project with Mark at Sharjah TV in the UAE.
